Impetuous Alexandra V?duva at the Lake District International Music Festival

We are thrilled to pair up with the Lake District International Music Festival for an event that brings to the fore the multi-awarded Alexandra V?duva, one of the amazing concert pianists that form the core of the young generation of Romanian musicians. The programme features music written by George Enescu during the troubled years of the Great War (Alexandra’s subject as Ph.D. student at the Royal Academy of Music) as well as works by Bartók, Schubert, Schumann, and Scarlatti.

Romanian-born pianist Alexandra V?duva started studying the piano at the age of 4 with Doina Olteteanu. Since 2009 she has successfully completed the Bachelor of Music, Master of Arts and Advanced Diploma courses at the Royal Academy of Music (RAM) while studying with Diana Ketler. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the RAM where she is researching the piano compositions of George Enescu. She was the recipient of a double fellowship during the 2015/2016 academic year. She has won first prize at the Vienna International Piano Competition, second prize at Orpheus Young Musician of the Year, third prize at the Beethoven Piano Competition, second prize at the Sterndale Bennett Piano Competition, first prizes at the Pro Piano and Carl Filtsch International Piano competitions and many more. Her competition activity is combined with a busy concert schedule. Alexandra has performed Stravinsky and Grieg with the RAM Symphony Orchestra and recitals have taken her to Fort Worth (Texas), Lobkowitz Palace (Vienna), Minato-Mirai Hall (Yokohama), Wigmore Hall, Champs Hill Records, Yamaha Centre, Steinway Hall, Colston Hall, Charlton House, the Romanian Cultural Institute, St Martin-in-the-Fields, Kings Place, St John’s Smith Square and the Gasteig Philharmonic in Munich. She has played in masterclasses given by Imogen Cooper, Vadym Kholodenko, Maxim Vengerov, Joseph Kalichstein, Joaquin Achucarro, Stephen Kovacevich, Stephen Hough, Pascal Devoyon, John O’Conor, Evgeny Sudbin, Joanna MacGregor and many more. Her chamber music group (clarinet, violin, viola, cello, piano), Ensemble Mirage, was selected as Young Artists for the 2016/17 St John’s Smith Square Recital Scheme.
