12/07 - 09/08/2018 @ King’s Cross area – along King’s Boulevard and Pancras Square, London.

We are delighted to be part of EUNIC London’s ‘Another Europe’, an engaging open-air photographic exhibition reflecting on aspects of culture that are slowly disappearing. The project brings together 28 photographers from each EU member state, including Romanian Oana Stoian, who were commissioned to capture these aspects of life before they are lost forever. Their work, mounted on specially designed concrete benches dispersed around London’s King’s Cross area, voices various social aspects: childhood, fairy tales, theatre, landscape, conflict, music, work, celebration, family, memories, literature and traditions.

‘Another Europe’ has been curated by UK artist Hamish Park and the exhibiting artists are: Oana Stoian (Romania), Jean Back (Luxembourg), Gerry Balfe Smith (Ireland), Jelena Blagovi? (Croatia), Paulo Catrica (Portugal) Emil Danailov (Bulgaria), Joanna Demarco (Malta), Alvaro Deprit (Spain), Tamas Dezso (Hungary), Jeanette Hagglund (Sweden), Nina Korhonen (Finland), Astrid Kruse Jensen (Denmark), Petra Lajdova (Slovakia), Marketa Luskacova (Czech Republic), Marlot & Chopard (France), Adam Panczuk (Poland), Klaus Pichler (Austria), Romualdas Požerskis (Lithuania), Birgit Püve (Estonia), Simon Roberts (UK), George Tatakis (Greece), Andrej Tarfila (Slovenia), Andreas Trogisch (Germany), Thodoris Tzalavras (Cyprus), Iveta Vaivode (Latvia), Els van den Meersch (Belgium), Massimo Vitali (Italy) and Henk Wildschut (Netherlands).

The project is organised in partnership with the Austrian Cultural Forum, EUNIC London (European Union National Institutes for Culture) and the Representation of the European Commission in the UK.

Oana Stoian was born in Lugoj in 1993. Her passion for art distinguished itself since childhood, when she started to express her creativity - first through painting and then, during her adolescence, through the discovery of photography as her medium of choice. Her work shows an abstraction of reality, a loss of identity in the context of mysterious scenes. In 2015, she received her Bachelor's degree from the Department of Photography-Videography at the Art and Design College, West University of Timisoara and, in 2017, her Master's degree in Publicity Graphics. In December 2015, she had her first personal photography exhibition in Timisoara, followed in 2017 & 2018 by several personal and group exhibitions. In 2016, Oana was selected for the Professional shortlist in the Staged category of the Sony World Photography Awards.

“The symbolism of this exhibition will have escaped few. It is an example of one of the many forms of cooperation which has been fostered between the states of the EU over decades. In this European Year of Cultural Heritage, we are bringing to London a showcase of European photographic talent. Many of the artist whose work is exhibited will be well know, others less so however, they have all contributed their interpretation of cultural heritage. This focuses not just on the physical manifestations of cultural heritage but also on the way in which this is transmitted. The work illustrates common themes but also highlights the particularities which make up Europe’s rich cultural heritage.” – curator Hamish Park
