The 2018 - 19 season of our Enescu Concerts Series continues with an unmissable recital featuring violinist Alexander B?l?nescu, one of the most visionary and inspiring musicians of our time. The programme comprises Johann Sebastian Bach’s Partita No. 3 in E major, as well as two of B?l?nescu’s own compositions: Winter Variations and Three Studies for Miriam.

“The uniqueness of B?l?nescu's performance resides in its deep emotional resonance and powerful manner of expression, characterized by the violinist's strong rhythmical impact on his strings, as well as other non-specific sonorities. The tension thus created has resulted in a style of interpretation defined by the artist as Aggressive Lyricism.” – Adriana Cârcu, All About Jazz

Alexander B?l?nescu is one of the world’s leading contemporary violinists, composer and visual artist. Born in Romania and raised in Israel, he studied violin at the Rubin Academy in Jerusalem, London's Trinity College and at the Julliard School in New York. He returned to London where he worked and cooperated with many of the major contemporary music groups. With his Balanescu Quartet he has commissioned over 25 works to date beginning with Michael Nyman, Gavin Bryars, Kevin Volans and Balanescu himself, before going on to include the non-classical writers John Lurie, David Byrne, Keith Tippett, Carla Bley, Rabih Abou Khalil, Michael Nyman, Gavin Bryars, Ornette Coleman, Peter Greenaway, David Byrne, the Pet Shop Boys, Spiritualized, Kate Bush and Kraftwerk. His is an influential voice in post-minimalist composition, usually featuring his unique and iconic violin, in the meeting of contemporary classical and alternative popular music.  When he is not scoring films he spends his time touring the world, constantly looking to the future in music.
