Internationally acclaimed Luiza Borac, a pianist of “subtle but absolute mastery” (BBC Music Magazine), returns to the British capital for a series of musical treats dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Clara Schumann's birth. The two recitals will take the audience on a soulful journey into the 19th century, in commemoration of the extraordinary artist.

 

As part of our “Enescu Concerts” Series, Luiza Borac will enchant the public with a  programme that showcases her exceptional assurance and technical bravura, with works by Clara Schumann, George Enescu, Johannes Brahms and Robert Schuman. The next day, the pianist will also perform at St James’s Church on Piccadilly.

Based in Germany, Luiza Borac has won over 30 prizes including First Prize in the “Mendelssohn Competition” in Berlin and the “Viotti-Valsesia International Music Competition” in Italy, the Silver Medal at the “Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition” in Salt Lake City, the Debut prize at Carnegie Hall New York, the Prix d’Oslo, the Grieg Prize and the audience prize in the “International Edvard Grieg Piano Competition” in Oslo. Luiza Borac has been celebrated as “a dream of a pianist” (Rondo), a formidable interpreter' (San Francisco Chronicle), “a worthy ambassador for a genius” (Music & Vision) and a pianist of “subtle but absolute mastery” (BBC Music Magazine). Gramophone has commented that “Borac’s only substantial rival is Dinu Lipatti in the Third Sonata” and Hi-Fi has noted that “Luiza Borac creates an extraordinary sense of identification with the music ... a revelation”. The music journal Fono Forum made this recording its “Star of the Month”. In 2017, Luiza Borac dedicated around 30 concerts in Italy, Romania, Italy and Switzerland to the legendary Romanian pianist and composer Dinu Lipatti on his 100th birthday. Currently Luiza is touring Germany, France, UK and Romania with a series of recitals and concerts dedicated to the famous german pianist Clara Wieck-Schumann on her 200th anniversary.
